A collection of important paintings, including works from masters Picasso, Freud, Bacon, Soutine, van Gogh and Chagall, have been installed on the walls of Atlas, a new restaurant by famed Atlanta chef and restaurateur Gerry Klaskala and the Tavistock Group. This impressive grouping features two-dozen 20th century masterworks from the Lewis Collection, one of the most significant private art collections in the world (including Picasso, Soutine, Freud, van Gogh, Bacon and Chagall).
Located in the heart of Buckhead at The St. Regis Atlanta, Atlas will offer this unique and treasured visual experience for diners when they visit the soon-to-be-opened restaurant on January 26. Green lacquered walls provide the backdrop for the art, which can be viewed from every vantage point. I hope you enjoy these first photos from the restaurant!
“The artwork from the Lewis Collection being installed at Atlas is significant,” said Michael Shapiro, director of the High Museum of Art, “and the Soutine painting featured at Atlas was an important addition to our recent exhibition. The restaurant will be an exciting place to visit for anyone interested in art.”
Some of the paintings displayed at Atlas include:
- Chaim Soutine, “Portrait d’une jeune fille (Fille en blouse bleu)”
- Pablo Picasso, “Dora Maar”
- Francis Bacon, “Study for Portrait”
- Lucian Freud, “Naked Child Laughing”
- Pablo Picasso, “La Famille”
- Vincent van Gogh, “Vieux se chauffant”
- Marc Chagall, “Le Femme Rouge”
To complement the fine works, the dining at Atlas will be superlative, bringing an unparalleled culinary experience to the Capitol of the South. With a focus on curating fresh ingredients from local farms, consulting chef Gerry Klaskala and chef de cuisine Christopher Grossman, formerly of The French Laundry, have crafted a daily-changing menu that includes potato-leek clam chowder, ginger-marinated black bass, braised leg of Alabama rabbit, and oat crusted Blue Ridge trout.
“Inspired by the harmonious relationship that has long existed between art and food, we set out to create a one-of-a-kind experience for our guests, where the food is as carefully chosen and prepared as the world-class art collection,” said Gerry Klaskala, consulting chef at Atlas and founder of Aria and Canoe, two of the city’s most vibrant and popular dining establishments.
Atlas is located at Tavistock’s premier hotel property The St. Regis Atlanta, situated within the shopping and financial district of Buckhead. Atlas is one of 14 award-winning brands operated by Tavistock Restaurant Collection, a Tavistock Group company.
Designed by the Johnson Studio, Atlas will open to the public on January 26th.
