Deadlines for filing your homestead exemption are quickly approaching.

Homeowners may need to provide the recording deed book and page from their Warranty Deed, proof of residence, social security number(s), driver’s license and car tag information. It varies from county to county, so check the website for more detailed information.

Fulton County - A homestead exemption is a reduction in homeowners’ property taxes. To qualify for any exemption, you must own and occupy the property as your primary residence as of January 1, 2010 and be permanent legal resident of Fulton County. Additionally, you are required to present a valid Georgia photo ID and provide a current copy of your Fulton County vehicle registration. All senior and disability exemptions must be applied for in person and the 2009 household income information is required. Fulton County Homeowners will receive a $25,000 exemption for tax year 2010 and by 2011 the basic exemption will increase to $30,000.  For those homeowners currently receiving a homestead exemption, no further action is required to get the increased exemption, unless there is an ownership change or if you become eligible for an additional exemption. First time Fulton County homeowners or those applying for an additional exemption, have until April 1 to file.
